Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm has passed another major milestone, that is the successful installation of 19km of onshore cable in each of the three power circuits from the Carnoustie landing to the new substation currently under construction in Tealing, near Dundee.
Seagreen’s onshore project manager Steven Reid said: “This is a huge engineering feat, including the installation of 117 separate cables along the route, involving crossing the East Coast Main Line, the A90 and A92, and minimizing disruption to the Carnoustie and Panmure golf courses.”
“This is a key activity for the Seagreen project in preparation for the first electricity exports this summer, and we are now in the final stages of restoring and replanting the land affected by the cable lines, which will continue until the end of the year.
With the support of our contractors Nexan and Linxon, we are also donating some cable rolls to local schools in Carnoustie, Murroes and Tealing that will be used in each school playground.”
The Carnoustie’s landing project was completed earlier this year, and since then, the project has successfully completed the second of three cable traction at the landing time to support offshore cables to onshore cables.
The Seagreen wind farm is a joint venture between SSE Renewables and Total Energies and is currently under construction about 27 km from the Angus coastline.
Once operational, the site will become Scotland‘s largest and the world’s deepest fixed-bottom offshore wind farm, providing enough clean electricity to about two-thirds of Scotland’s homes.
